This role supports Newport News Shipbuilding’s new construction efforts and plays a key part in aligning construction and testing priorities for submarines under build.   The ideal candidate will bring strong interpersonal and project management abilities, as they will coordinate construction and test activities across assigned areas, drive resolution of integration challenges, and ensure timely turnover of ship systems to the customer. The position also works closely with a broad set of stakeholders to develop and maintain a resource‑loaded, integrated ship delivery schedule—from early construction phases through final delivery to the U.S. Navy.

Requirements

  • Candidate is required to have either: Eight (8) years relevant progressive experience with a bachelor’s in engineering or related field;  Or six (6) years relevant progressive experience with a Masters in related field.
  • Four (4) years of supervisory experience.
  • Four (4) years of project management experience.
  • Candidate must have active-duty US Navy submarine operational and/or shipyard experience to include Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant qualifications and experience.
  • Candidate must have a strong technical knowledge of propulsion and non-propulsions submarine systems operation and intersystem interaction.
  • Candidate must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Candidate must possess an active secret security clearance.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Active-duty service on Virginia Class Submarines is preferred.
  • Previous Navy qualifications as Ship’s Duty Officer highly desired.
  • Project Management Professional certification.
  • Shipyard submarine new construction and/or propulsion plant testing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the operational aspects of ongoing projects, acting as a liaison between program management and planning, project team, line management, test organizations, and the customer.
  • Review status of projects and budgets, managing schedules, and preparing status reports.
  • Assess project issues and develop resolutions that meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for developing mechanisms to monitor project progress and intervene and solve problems with project managers, line managers, and customers.
