The Console Operator monitors various systems including DCS alarms, graphics, Standard Operating Conditions (SOC’s), DCS screens and pages, ESD panels, gas detection systems, interlocks, and UPS systems. This role involves making process adjustments to maintain control, following operating procedures, quality control plans, daily instructions, plant rules, and government guidelines. Key responsibilities also include controlling unit emissions, recording information on logs and forms, and writing work requests for repairs, all aimed at achieving the highest standards of operating excellence and environmental stewardship.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • For internal candidates ONLY: 1 year of relevant Operator experience at the site is required.
  • Internal candidate must have demonstrated a strong capability to learn, understand and troubleshoot in assigned unit processes.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant operating experience in a process industry such as petrochemical, refinery, or pulp & paper is required.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Must have a level of proficiency with SAP, Internet, Email and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Process Operating Technology from an accredited institution is strongly preferred.
  • Some console operating experience during the 5 years of relevant operating experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a site Safety Orientation and follow all Operator safety and environmental policies.
  • From a Control Room monitor computer screens to track chemical production activities in various units by tracking temperatures, pressures, levels, ensuring safety equipment such as alarms and interlocks are in place and operable (not by-passed), and taking corrective actions as necessary, to maintain unit safety and ensure the integrity of the process and equipment.
  • Have a firm understanding of interlock actions and emergency procedures.
  • Communicate well with all outside operators to effectively troubleshoot abnormal conditions and promptly respond to emergency situations.
  • Learn to monitor production and equipment operations during actual production runs.
  • Adjust process parameters for unusual weather-related events, including freezing temperatures and hurricanes, following Operating Procedures to de-inventory and/or bleed water systems; up to and including complete unit shutdowns to protect equipment and personnel from potential weather damage.
  • Respond to all area emergencies including loss of power, steam, cooling water, instrument air, fires, and other dangerous and unusual situations.
  • Follow Emergency Procedures and utilize safety equipment and systems to maintain the safety and integrity of the process and equipment.
  • Coordinate actions taken by field operators when needed.
  • Monitor sample results and request additional samples when needed for keeping product within quality specifications.
  • Take corrective actions when lab results suggest out of spec conditions.
  • Identify process problem areas and communicate them up and through the organization using appropriate means of communication.
  • Log employee time sheets and track overtime hours worked.
  • Participate in shift hand-offs and other key operator communications meetings.
  • Participate in audits, investigations, HAZOPs, PHA's and quality efforts in the areas.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of equipment, control rooms, and the production areas.
  • Ensure that activities are carried out to comply with the integrated management system, as applicable (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality and responsible care requirements).
  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed.
  • If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Assist other employees in accomplishments of Indorama company goals.
  • Follow instructions and perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.
  • Participate in and complete company required training programs.
