About The Position

The Department of Violence Prevention & Advocacy (VPA) has an outstanding opportunity for a temporary Confidential Survivor Advocate to join their team. Under the general direction and supervision of the Assistant Director of Violence Prevention & Advocacy, the Confidential Survivor Advocate provides advocacy services, psychoeducation, consultation, and referrals to students at the University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College. This role offers direct support to students impacted by sexual and interpersonal violence, sexual harassment, and stalking. The advocate provides emotional support, helps students explore their options, assesses risk factors, assists with safety planning, and advocates for supportive measures. Additionally, this position manages a caseload of students, responds to CARE reports from faculty, staff, and students, and participates in weekly CARE Team meetings at both institutions. The Confidential Survivor Advocate collaborates closely with UW’s tri-campus system, including Title IX and SafeCampus, ensuring students receive holistic support. They also coordinate outreach efforts to promote services and connect students with the VPA office. This position serves as a critical confidential resource under RCW 28B.112.030

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, education, or related field and 3 + years of experience supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence in advocacy, crisis response or related fields. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration .
Certified Confidential Advocate or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of employment.
Strong knowledge of violence prevention and intervention, including sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to support students from underrepresented and marginalized communities using an equity-based approach.
Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in social work, public health, education, or a related field.
At least two years of experience providing advocacy services in a higher education setting.
Experience offering culturally relevant support to marginalized and underrepresented communities.
Familiarity with Title IX and related laws affecting violence prevention and survivor support in higher education.
NOVA (National Organization for Victim Advocacy) or Advocate Core Washington State Certification

Responsibilities

Provide case management and direct services to students affected by sexual and/or domestic violence.
Offer support based on students' needs, including safety planning, referrals to on- and off-campus resources, and information sharing.
Identify and address barriers such as childcare, transportation, or language needs, providing solutions or referrals.
Respond promptly to CARE Reports while prioritizing survivor safety and privacy.
Educate survivors on their rights, including options to file institutional complaints, report to law enforcement, seek medical care, and request protection orders or university no-contact directives.
Connect survivors with counseling, culturally specific services, and community-based agencies.
Conduct risk assessments, provide psychoeducation, and assist with developing and adjusting safety plans.
Accompany survivors to investigative meetings related to the Title IX process and other university complaint procedures.
Coordinate with campus and community advocates to ensure comprehensive support and case consultation.
Securely document case activity, referrals, and risk assessments using the Violence Prevention & Advocacy Office’s database.
Maintain confidentiality and ensure accurate documentation for reports.
Develop and implement outreach and education for students to increase their awareness of the VPA advocacy services, campus support resources and normalize help-seeking behaviors.
Facilitate educational sessions on sexual assault and relationship violence, consent, and survivor support through classroom visits, trainings, and workshops.
Lead awareness month events and programming for students, staff, and faculty on campus.
Create, disseminate and evaluate educational and promotional materials related to VPA services, sexual assault and relationship violence.
Serve on institutional committees and working groups related to Title IX, campus safety, and survivor support.
Partner with Title IX, SafeCampus, and other university offices on safety assessments, supportive measures, and legal or regulatory matters.
Stay informed on emerging trends and best practices in violence prevention and advocacy.
Build strong relationships with key personnel at UW Bothell and Cascadia College to enhance service coordination.
