About The Position

The Conference Assistants (CAs) will have significant responsibility in overall summer conference operations including but not limited to the following: front desk management, conference check-in/check-outs, building preparation, and emergency call response.

Requirements

  • Attend training in April
  • Available to work from May 9th through August 10th
  • Pre-enrolled for fall semester classes or registered for summer classes.
  • Prepared to work extra hours from, Friday, June 12th through Sunday, June 14th for Illinois Special Olympics and not to exceed 28 hours for the scheduled work week.
  • Adhere to the established dress code
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekend hours as assigned by supervisor.
  • 2.4 cumulative grade point average at time of application.
  • Completed at least 24 credit hours at time of appointment.
  • Good disciplinary standing with the University.
  • Have at least one semester of residence hall living experience
  • Effectively communicate on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect residence hall facilities to ensure orderly appearance and report necessary repairs.
  • Inventory conference supplies (i.e. keys, conference information, and materials) before, during, and after each conference.
  • Maintain themed and informational bulletin boards.
  • Meet and communicate regularly with the residence hall professional staff.
  • Work desk shifts as assigned.
  • Present a good image of Illinois State University.
  • Perform duties related to conference and summer school check-ins and check-outs.
  • Assist in acquainting conference sponsors with conference policies, procedures, facilities, and emergency procedures.
  • Be available to conference participants; respond to needs and concerns, make referrals when necessary.
  • Submit maintenance requests and damage assessments.
  • Responsible for building security and safety.
  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor or professional staff.
  • Assist with emergency response according to training received.
  • Responsible for sorting and forwarding mail.
  • Log and distribute all packages to residents.
  • Mailroom shifts will be based on summer mail needs.
