About The Position

Position Purpose: Under immediate supervision, operates, monitors, and troubleshoots computing platforms, systems, and peripheral equipment following established computer procedures on assigned shift. Reviews and follows all procedures and documentation in performing associated job duties. Works with I/S groups to ensure service objectives are met. This is an onsite position, 5 days a week. Seeking candidates local to Columbia, SC. This is a day shift position that is from 5:45 am – 6:15 pm. This position will work 12-hour rotating shifts including weekends and holidays. Rotates every 4 weeks.

Requirements

  • Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Required Skills and Abilities: Effective analytical, organizational, communications (verbal and written), and customer service skills. Work requires ability to operate a computer.
  • Required Software and Other Tools: Knowledge of console systems, peripheral equipment, computing platforms. Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Work Experience: 1 year of IT related work experience.
  • Preferred Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of departmental operations, systems and equipment in the department. Ability to troubleshoot and restore routine technical service and peripheral equipment. Ability to perform system backup process and disaster recovery tests. Ability to load tapes, optical media, and paper as needed. Knowledge of JCL. Ability to interact with various technologies.
  • Preferred Software and Other Tools: INFORM, JHS (Job History System), ZEKE Scheduler, Z/OS, SAMS, AS400, CONMON. Knowledge of console systems, peripheral equipment, computing platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors/observes and troubleshoots multi-technology computing platforms including midrange, mainframe, and/or servers.
  • Ensures stable operating environment and attains maximum utilization of system facilities and resources.
  • Operates/monitors console systems and interacts with appropriate peripheral equipment such as printers, disk drives, tape technologies, and image technologies, for routine, regularly processed workloads.
  • Assists programmers and systems analysts in running non-routine workloads that are used for testing, quality development, and production.
  • Locates/monitors/mounts physical/virtual tapes and optical platters in the tape libraries.
  • Rotates backup tape files to the vault.
