About The Position

The Compliance & Regulatory Manager ensures that all products, materials, and manufacturing processes comply with applicable food-contact safety, environmental, and industry regulations. This role leads the company's compliance strategy for domestic and international markets, manages certifications, audits, and documentation, and serves as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, customers, and suppliers on compliance-related matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Environmental Science, Regulatory Affairs, or related field.
  • 5+ years of regulatory or compliance experience in manufacturing, ideally within food packaging, food contact materials, or plastics industries.
  • Proven knowledge of FDA food-contact regulations, EU food safety directives, and global regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience managing audits, certifications, and supplier compliance programs.
  • Strong understanding of food-contact material regulations and documentation requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments (R D, Quality, Procurement, Sales, etc.).
  • Proficient in compliance databases, document control systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or specialized regulatory certification (e.g., RAC, PCQI, ISO Lead Auditor) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Product Stewardship Program
  • Maintain food safety and regulatory compliance documents, as well as the approved supplier Raw Material database.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in regulatory requirements (e.g, FDA 21 CFR, Prop 65, TSCA, etc.) and communicate impacts to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date product compliance documentation, including Declarations of Compliance (D0Cs), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Technical Data Sheets, (TDS), and regulatory dossiers.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to collect, review, and verify compliance documentation for all raw materials.
  • Stay up to date and current on emerging legislation and report to the executive team.
  • Manage external certifications, such as ISO 9001, ISO 22000, and FSC, as well as other sustainability or quality management systems.
  • SSC: Food Safety System Certification
  • Prepare for and lead third-party and customer audits, ensuring all documentation and practices meet regulatory and certification standards.
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and develop corrective/preventive action plans (CAPAs)
  • Evaluate new materials, additives, and packaging designs for compliance risks before commercialization.
  • Partner with R D and Product Development to provide regulatory guidance during innovation and product launches.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental and sustainability regulations (e.g., recycling mandates, extended producer responsibility laws, PFAS restrictions).
  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for compliance and regulatory affairs within the organization.
  • Communicate proactively with customers regarding product compliance inquiries, certifications, and documentation.
  • Establish and maintain compliance management systems and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure adherence to regulations and guidelines.
  • Recommend improvements to ensure ongoing compliance and operational excellence.
  • Track KPIs related to compliance performance and report regularly to leadership.
