About The Position

The Compliance Audit Manager is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and oversight of compliance audit engagements for fringe benefit funds. This role ensures employers are accurately reporting and contributing in accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreements and related plan documents. The Manager oversees multiple engagements of varying complexity while maintaining audit quality, consistency, and timeliness. This position also manages and develops audit staff, coordinates workflow, and serves as a key liaison between internal teams, fund offices, and legal counsel. Success in this role requires balancing audit quality with operational efficiency, including effective use of resources, technology, and audit tools to continuously improve processes and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required
  • Minimum of six years of compliance audit experience, preferably within union, fringe benefit fund, or payroll-based environments
  • Proven experience managing audit teams and reviewing complex engagements
  • Strong understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements, collection policies, and related plan documents
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with audit/data analysis tools
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present findings and handle sensitive discussions
  • Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and accountability
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple engagements in a deadline-driven environment
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required; local and occasional out-of-state travel required

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all phases of compliance audit engagements from planning through final report issuance
  • Review complex or high-risk audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to fund requirements and collection policies
  • Assign and manage audit workload across staff to ensure timely completion and proper resource utilization
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop audit staff, including performance feedback, coaching, and training
  • Monitor engagement progress, deadlines, and overall team productivity
  • Identify issues requiring expanded scope or escalation and coordinate with fund office, collections, and legal counsel as needed
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employers, addressing questions, discrepancies, and sensitive matters professionally
  • Prepare and review billing related to audit engagements
  • Analyze performance metrics and identify trends to improve audit effectiveness and coverage
  • Support process improvements, including implementation of audit tools, automation, and standardized procedures
  • Contribute to the development of audit practices, training materials, and long-term departmental strategies
