About The Position

Participatory Budgeting (PB), known as Ideas in Action, is a yearly initiative in Boston where community members decide how to allocate a portion of the public budget. This process involves open dialogue, identification and prioritization of project ideas, and collective decision-making on funding and implementation for community benefit. The Office of Participatory Budgeting (OPB) is seeking a Community Partnerships and Project Coordinator to manage its outreach and partnership initiatives. This role will involve planning, executing, and evaluating engagement strategies across various PB phases, coordinating event and workshop logistics, managing relationships with diverse stakeholders, and supporting the tracking of winning PB projects. The Coordinator will collaborate with OPB staff to ensure all residents have the opportunity to participate in Ideas in Action.

  • Demonstrated project management expertise with proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with competing deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills; ability to develop and conduct presentations and training sessions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and build consensus around contentious issues or diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from community members and stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.

  • Flexibility to occasionally work evenings and weekends for community events.
  • BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Haitian Creole (or other City of Boston threshold languages) is strongly preferred due to the high volume of community engagement in these languages.

  • Serve as primary liaison and project lead for the Office’s community partners, managing the full partnership lifecycle from recruitment, training, ongoing support, and evaluation.
  • Manage stakeholders relationships — including residents and community leaders, nonprofits, civic groups, contractors, and City staff; maintain organized records of interactions and build strategic partnership networks.
  • Lead and oversee logistics of community events, including but not limited to coordination with community partners, contractors, volunteers, and relevant City Departments.
  • In collaboration with relevant City departments, track the implementation of funded participatory budgeting projects, posting updates to the website, and sharing relevant information with the public and other stakeholders.
  • Create outreach materials such as flyers, newsletters, and email campaigns, ensuring language and other accessibility considerations for our diverse residents.
