About The Position

The Community Outreach Coordinator plays a critical role in Jubilee’s multidisciplinary approach to supporting returning citizens. This position is responsible for initial outreach to potential program participants to inform of Reentry Housing Service benefits. This position normally requires travel from Washington, DC to state and federal prisons in West Virginia, North Carolina, Philadelphia, and other states to conduct program presentations to men and women of the District of Columbia, small groups, and individuals to build interest in the program and to inform candidates of necessary steps required for program eligibility prior to and following their release. The Community Outreach Coordinator will also garner resources for the development and execution of current reentry program(s) and expansion to include food, clothing, educational/job training programs and long-term housing options. This position is supervised by the Director of Reentry Housing and Services and works collaboratively as a member of the Reentry Housing and Services team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services, or related field, although other forms of experience may substitute.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence working with men and women returning from incarceration, pursuing recovery from addiction and mental health challenges.
  • Experience and competency with trauma informed care.
  • Must possess critical and creative thinking skills.
  • Able to work cohesively within a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and time-management skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong public speaking skills.

  • Lived experience in the prison-reentry system welcomed.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits new residents from a variety of external partners, including correctional facilities, government agencies, non-profit providers, and other sources.
  • Travels weekly to the DC Department of Corrections Facilities, local substance abuse and mental health treatment facilities, and alternate programs currently serving returning citizens.
  • Travels quarterly to Federal Bureau of Prison facilities as approved.
  • Shares information with partners and prospective residents regarding the program vision, goals, eligibility criteria, etc.
  • Coordinates intake interviews with candidates and team members.
  • Conducts assessments for individuals who inquire about the program.
  • Responsible for data entry in Jubilee and third-party databases to ensure tracking of program outcomes.
  • Represents the organization at community outreach events and other opportunities to heighten awareness and build support for the program.
  • Provides linkages and referrals to permanent housing organizations, apartment complexes and other social service agencies to benefit program participants.
  • Cultivates ongoing connections and participation with program alumni.
  • Attends multi-disciplinary team meetings to assist in case staffing’s and provides support to promote individual success.
  • Coordinates program events and develops facilitator schedules.
