About The Position

Hushabye Nursery is an Arizona nonprofit organization with a mission to ‘embrace substance exposed babies and their caregivers with compassionate, evidence-based care that changes the course of their entire lives.’ The organization was founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal nurse practitioner who witnessed firsthand the challenges of newborns exposed prenatally to opioids and those families trying to care for them. Hushabye Nursery’s innovative model offers a safe and inclusive space where mothers, family members and babies – from conception through childhood – can receive integrative care and therapeutic support that offers each child the best possible life outcomes. Programs will include prenatal and postpartum support groups, inpatient nursery services, and outpatient therapies. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Community Outreach & Strategic Growth Manager serves as the organizational lead for business development, referral growth, and census attainment for Hushabye Nursery. This role is responsible for designing and executing a data-driven growth strategy that builds a robust referral pipeline, increases program utilization, and positions Hushabye as the provider of choice for substance-exposed infants and their families across Arizona.This leader drives market penetration and relationship-based sales through strategic community partnerships, healthcare system engagement, and targeted education initiatives. The manager oversees the Community Engagement and Admissions teams, ensuring outreach efforts translate into measurable referrals, admissions, and sustained census growth.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success in business development, sales leadership, or growth strategy, preferably within healthcare, behavioral health, or nonprofit settings.
  • Experience in healthcare or nonprofit operations, including workflow optimization, cross-departmental coordination, and process improvement preferred.
  • Strong understanding of referral-based service models and relationship-driven sales.
  • Experience managing budgets, performance metrics, and ROI analysis.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and data-driven decision-making.
  • Advanced communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Current Arizona DPS Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance.
  • Current CPR card.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business, healthcare administration, marketing, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in business development, outreach, sales, or growth-focused roles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Growth, Sales & Census DevelopmentDevelops and executes a comprehensive business development strategy to achieve and exceed budgeted census and utilization targets across all programs.
  • Owns the referral pipeline, including lead generation, referral conversion, and admission outcomes.
  • Establishes performance metrics (KPIs) for outreach and admissions, including referral volume, conversion rates, source productivity, and return on investment.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to forecast census trends and align growth strategies with organizational capacity and financial goals.
  • Partners cross-functionally with clinical and operational leadership to ensure census growth aligns with staffing capacity, regulatory compliance, and service delivery infrastructure.
  • Positions Hushabye Nursery as a preferred provider through consistent, high-impact engagement with healthcare systems, providers, payers, and community partners.
  • Community Partnerships & Market PresenceBuilds, maintains, and expands strategic partnerships with hospitals, healthcare providers, behavioral health organizations, social service agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Leads presentations, tours, trainings, and outreach initiatives designed to drive referrals and reduce barriers to access.
  • Represents Hushabye Nursery in local, regional, and state collaboratives focused on maternal, infant, and behavioral health.
  • Identifies new market opportunities, service gaps, and expansion pathways based on community needs and referral trends.
  • CRM, Data & Performance OptimizationOversees and optimizes CRM utilization to ensure accurate tracking of referral sources, pipeline activity, admissions flow, and outreach performance.
  • Uses CRM and program data to drive continuous improvement, accountability, and strategic decision-making.
  • Demonstrates operational acumen by evaluating workflow efficiency, admissions processes, and internal systems to improve referral-to-admission conversion and overall program performance.
  • Produces regular reports for executive leadership that translate outreach activity into clear business and census outcomes.
  • Financial Oversight & ROI AccountabilityManages the Community and Outreach budget with a focus on growth efficiency, stewardship, and sustainability.
  • Evaluates conferences, events, sponsorships, and outreach initiatives based on measurable return on investment.
  • Ensures outreach resources are deployed strategically to maximize referral yield and admissions impact.
  • Team Leadership & Performance ManagementRecruits, hires, develops, and leads high-performing community outreach and engagement (admissions ) staff.
  • Sets clear performance expectations aligned with growth goals and holds team members accountable for outcomes.
  • Provides coaching, training, and professional development focused on consultative relationship-building, referral conversion, and mission-aligned sales practices.
  • Ensures all outreach activities are conducted in a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and ethical manner.
  • Other DutiesEnsures accurate data entry, documentation, and record management in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support organizational growth and mission advancement.
