About The Position

The Community Outreach Manager is responsible for leading the community outreach team and comprehending and leveraging the dynamics of energy efficiency at the local and state levels. This role develops relationships across Michigan to position Walker‑Miller for projects and collaborations within the energy efficiency ecosystem and requires an understanding of where funding is derived and how it can be translated into value streams for the organization and the communities Walker‑Miller serves.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Residency in Michigan with deep familiarity with the state’s political, community, and energy landscape.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy efficiency, electrification, building decarbonization, and/or community engagement.
  • Proven experience leading and participating in community outreach events, including engagement with residents, community organizations, and public-sector stakeholders.
  • Experience organizing and executing outreach events and initiatives that build awareness, participation, and trust among diverse community audiences.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, especially with government agencies, nonprofits, and community-based organizations.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and cultural competency; able to build trust and rapport across diverse audiences—from grassroots leaders to government officials.
  • Proven ability to tailor messaging to different audiences while maintaining authenticity and professionalism.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation development.
  • Strong critical thinking and strategic planning skills; able to synthesize complex information and identify synergies.
  • Knowledge of state and local funding mechanisms, including grants, RFPs, and legislative appropriations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM platforms, and other virtual collaboration tools.
  • Ability to travel within Michigan as needed for stakeholder meetings and events.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, embrace and operate within our core values.
  • Champion and represent Walker-Miller’s core values in all interactions and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in Michigan nonprofit organizations, community groups, large municipalities, and state and local government offices that work in energy efficiency, electrification, building decarbonization, or similar missions.
  • Represent Walker-Miller at public meetings, community events, and stakeholder forums.
  • Identify and track funding sources, including grants, appropriations, and public programs, and translate those opportunities into actionable strategies for internal teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, and business development to align outreach efforts with organizational goals.
  • Focus on developing and executing outreach strategies that support equitable access to energy efficiency programs, particularly in underserved communities.
  • Assist with monitoring legislative/regulatory developments that impact energy efficiency and clean energy funding.
  • Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and reports to inform leadership and support strategic decision-making.
  • Develop an understanding of the landscape and the opportunities within Michigan, bringing that information back to the various teams in a way that is actionable.
  • Maintain a CRM or stakeholder engagement system (Salesforce, SharePoint) to track relationships, communications, and outcomes.
