Currently, we're on the lookout for Community Mentors to lend support to participants in our Tailored Day Services Program. Our Quest Tailored Day Services Program: In this program, we serve adults with developmental disabilities in their homes or the community, focusing on post-secondary education, vocational interests, and other personal goals. Community Mentors travel to meet 1-3 individuals per day and provide one-on-one direct support.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with individuals with disabilities, their family members, employers, and others in a positive and constructive manner.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must pass a DOJ Live Scan fingerprinting background clearance.
  • Valid California Driver’s License, automobile insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Willing to travel: up to 75%.
  • Cultural awareness and adaptability.

Nice To Haves

  • Fluent in Spanish.
  • Familiarity with the Los Angeles Metro system (MetroGo app, route planning, etc.).
  • Experience with resource navigation (Transportation resources, accessibility resources, etc.).
  • Crisis management skills.
  • Prior experience supporting individuals with disabilities. If you don’t have experience, we will provide on-the-job training. Some of our best staff did not have experience prior to being hired at BuildAbility!

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual support in the home or community setting as identified in the participant’s Individualized Personal Plan.
  • Work closely with the participant’s support team to identify needs and develop plans.
  • Navigate private and public resources to create opportunities for growth, develop skills, and meet specific goals outlined in the Individual Service Design and IPP.
  • Travel with participants throughout the local community to attend social events, recreational activities, school, etc.
  • Advocate for participants’ rights and individual choice in all settings and provide services in accordance with HCBS Final Rule guidelines.
  • Complete required documentation, including daily notes, activities using Buildability digital platforms, and written reports of client progress or barriers encountered in meeting goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to assure the efficiency of program services.
