About The Position

The Community Health Medical Assistant supports the mission of the Neighborhood Wellness Center by providing high-quality patient care, preventive health screenings, and health education in both clinic and community-based settings. Working under the supervision of the Community Health Nurse and providers, the CMA plays a key role in patient engagement, clinical workflow, and outreach activities designed to address chronic disease prevention and improve health equity in underserved populations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • One (1) year experience in a healthcare environment
  • One (1) year experience providing office reception services
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required

Nice To Haves

  • Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA) is preferred, but not mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive health screenings (e.g., blood pressure, blood glucose)
  • Collect and record vital signs, and intake information accurately.
  • Support immunization and vaccination workflows under RN/provider supervision.
  • Assist in point-of-care testing (POCT) and specimen collection.
  • Participate in community-based outreach events (e.g. health fairs, school screenings, church/wellness events).
  • Assist the Community Health RN & CHWs in connecting patients to medical, behavioral health, & social services.
  • Conduct reminder calls and follow-ups for patients needing additional screenings or services.
  • Work with Community Health RN, CHWs, & providers to ensure smooth clinic flow & comprehensive patient care.
  • Support interns and volunteers during outreach activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, huddles, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, and HIPAA standards.
  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation of screenings and patient interactions.
  • Follow FQHC and AAAHC clinical protocols and workflows.
  • Demonstrates respect, & professionalism when interacting with patients, visitors, providers, & colleagues.
  • Provides prompt, respectful, and solution-focused customer service.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA and organizational privacy policies.
  • Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, willingly offering and accepting assistance.
  • Communicates clearly and appropriately, both verbally and in writing.
  • Actively listens and responds constructively to feedback from patients, peers, and supervisors.
  • Keeps appropriate team members informed and participates in team meetings.
  • Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and accountability in attendance and job performance.
  • Completes tasks independently with minimal supervision and meets deadlines.
  • Shows willingness to take on additional responsibilities and support colleagues as needed.
  • Continuously looks for ways to improve work processes and patient care.
  • Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems, including documentation and data entry.
  • Understands and applies medical terminology accurately.
  • Demonstrates proper use, maintenance, and sterilization of medical equipment and instruments.
  • Skilled in performing routine clinical tasks including vitals, lab tests, immunizations, and basic procedures.
