The Department of Public Health and Environment is seeking a talented and motivated public health professional to manage various programs that protect, promote, and improve the environment in Washington County with the goal of preventing the public's exposure to environmental hazards. This position will work collaboratively as a part of the department's senior leadership team, reporting directly to the department director. This position will be responsible for managing environmental programs for the department; near-term priorities for this position include: Regulation of food and lodging establishments, swimming pools, manufactured home parks, cannabis and tobacco retailers, septic systems, hazardous and solid waste disposal, and public health nuisances Operation of two Washington County Environmental Centers for collection of household hazardous waste and residential yard waste Development and operation of a wood recovery and utilization program and central county site for the collection and processing of tree material into usable products Implementation of the Washington County Solid Waste Management Plan to sustainably manage materials and prevent waste. Supporting legislative efforts to advance policies that protect public health, reduce waste, improve recycling, and enhance environmental sustainability Providing education on food safety, recycling, groundwater protection and waste disposal Washington County Public Health & Environment values your experiences, perspectives, and unique identity. Interview Timing: Interviews for this position will be held in mid-December. This is complex management and supervisory work of a varied nature. Work in this classification differs from the Supervisor classification in its responsibility for supervision and management of complex external relationships with other jurisdictions and program stakeholders. It includes responsibility for leading multiple department programs. Under the direction of the Department Director or Deputy Director, this position directs staff and supervisors to meet program and grant goals and objectives. When assigned to Community Health, develops and implements the Community Health Assessment, Community Health Improvement Plan, Department Strategic Plan, County ordinances, the Minnesota Department of Health's performance-related accountability requirements and administers various regional collaborations and joint powers agreements. When assigned to Environmental Health, ensures compliance with local code and ordinances related to delegated and regulatory programs, oversees the implementation of Waste Management Master Plan and Groundwater Plan and leads the operations of the county Environmental Centers.
