About The Position

The goal of the internship program at Glenstone is to cultivate the next generation of the workforce by exposing interns to various professional pathways in the museum world. In collaboration with their department, interns can expect to gain professional experience by supporting specific departmental initiatives and projects. Interns are encouraged to connect with fellow team members throughout the organization to gain knowledge and build lasting relationships. The Community Engagement (CENG) Department leads organization-wide initiatives that enable Glenstone to be a community anchor to our local audiences. The department works with museum-wide partners to enrich youth engagements and community collaborations through meaningful encounters with art, architecture, and nature. The Community Engagement Intern will have the opportunity to support Glenstone’s Summer youth and community programs. Supporting Montgomery County’s Summer RISE program and working with high school students who are experiencing their first job in their field of interest. This will be an opportunity to learn and design youth career-learning experiences in sustainable capacities for an organization. Participating in local community festivals including the Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival, the DMV’s largest cultural celebration dedicated to honoring and uplifting historic Black communities in our region as well as Montgomery County’s Pride in the Plaza in Silver Spring to engage with communities outside of Glenstone's physical site and learn about facilitating meaningful encounters with potential first-time visitors. Throughout their time, the intern will research and compile information on art and artists on view to generate content for teacher guides and learn about developing educational resources to expand and empower self-led opportunities with their students. Woking on these projects will provide the opportunity to collaborate across many departments within the organization, especially with Visitor Experience, Communications, Collections, Grounds, Engineering and Maintenance, and People & Culture.
