About The Position

This Community Employment Program Specialist position is located in the Pinehurst office, which provides services to persons who have disabilities which prevent them from independently obtaining, maintaining, or retaining employment. The incumbent will also develop and maintain relationships with employers in a 5-county area. This includes Moore, Hoke, Montgomery, Richmond and Anson counties catchment area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services or business field such as human resources, marketing, business administration, business management, healthcare management, or public administration from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate’s degree in a human services or business field (identified above) from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related work experience; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) and four years of directly related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the placement of eligible consumers in compatible, and competitive employment that is consistent with their interests and abilities.
  • Work closely with counselors to determine appropriate vocational goals for consumers and identify the availability of similar positions in the community.
  • Teaching employment marketing classes to job-ready consumers.
  • Teaching job retention classes.
  • Provide written and verbal feedback to counselors regarding the progress of referred consumers’ efforts to obtain employment.
  • Coordinate in-school work adjustment programs.
  • Meet with local and regional employers to explain agency mission and goals and to obtain their agreement and commitment to hire vocational rehabilitation (VR) consumers.
  • Participate in job fairs and other community events to promote the agency and its consumers as well as represent the work unit on boards and committees as designated by the Unit Manager and or Assistant Unit Manager.
  • Be heavily involved in the planning and implementation of National Disability Employment Awareness events.
