About The Position

The Communications Specialist will have responsibilities under the direction of the Communications and Community Relations Manager to support the cooperative’s digital communications efforts, with a primary focus on website maintenance, email marketing, targeted member communications, and data analytics. This position also provides assistance with graphic design as needed and supports Community Relations events and programs throughout the year.

Requirements

An Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university in marketing, journalism, business, public relations or communications is required.
1-2 years prior experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required to have excellent oral and written communications skills.
Must possess ability to write, edit, and proof own created works for readability, clarity, and punctuation.
Able to assist others within the company in producing written communications.
Experience with website content management systems (CMS) and website maintenance; familiarity with HTML/CSS is a plus.
Experience with email marketing platforms (such as Constant Contact, Mailchimp, or similar) and knowledge of email segmentation, campaign management, and performance analytics preferred.
Proficiency or eagerness to learn data analytics tools such as Google Analytics or similar platforms; ability to interpret data, identify trends, and translate findings into strategic communication recommendations.
Demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced working environment.
Strong individual contributor who is also a team player.
Willingness to voice opinions and share ideas.
Exceptional time-management, planning and organizational skills.
Experienced or trained in operation of Mac-based computers and various software packages including Microsoft Office, email marketing platforms, web content management systems, data analytics tools, and Adobe Creative Suite for graphic design assistance.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of contact for maintaining and updating the co-op’s corporate website and internal online employee community, ensuring content is current, accurate, and aligned with the cooperative’s brand standards.
Develop, manage, and execute email marketing campaigns targeting co-op members, including segmentation strategies to ensure relevant and timely communications are delivered to the appropriate member audiences.
Collect, analyze, and report on data from digital communications efforts, including website analytics, email marketing performance, and member engagement metrics, providing actionable insights to inform the Communications Team’s strategy.
Serve as the coordinator for a new JOEMC Connections Program, which includes the recruitment of new businesses, check-ins with current participants and the overall marketing and promotion of the program.
Develop and implement targeted communication strategies to reach specific member segments, utilizing data to tailor messaging for programs, outages, rate changes, energy efficiency initiatives, and other cooperative communications.
Coordinate the purchasing of promotional materials/giveaways and employee apparel from various outside vendors.
Work with Communications Team, developing and interpreting results of the co-op’s digital communications efforts, with emphasis on website performance, email engagement, and member-facing digital channels.
Assist the Coordinator of Graphic Services and Communications Team with graphic design projects as needed, supporting the creation of collateral materials, digital content, and other visual communications while adhering to the cooperative’s brand standards.
Fosters community relations at civic groups and business groups to increase public awareness of the co-op’s services.
Represents the co-op by active participation in community and civic organizations, which reflects positively on the co-op.
Work with the Communications Team to develop goals, strategies, and policies for the community relations program of the Cooperative.
Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of Community Relations events and programs throughout the year, including civic outreach, member appreciation events, and cooperative-sponsored community initiatives.
Will assist in various public relations functions as needed and as assigned by the Communications and Community Relations Manager.
Will be available to provide communications support for Member Services.
Other duties as assigned by the Communications and Community Relations Manager and senior management.
