About Us: Aliados Health is a network comprised of a 17-member community health centers with sites in Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo counties. Formed in 1994, our mission is to improve access to, and the quality of care provided. Aliados Health’s major focus is to strengthen the capacity of member health centers to act as a regional network of comprehensive primary care that provides access to consistently high-quality clinical care. POSITION SUMMARY Are you passionate about using your communications expertise to champion equitable health care? Aliados Health is seeking a dynamic and strategic Communications & Public Affairs Manager to join our network of 17 community health centers. As a vital member of our mission-driven organization, you will amplify the voices of frontline health care providers who deliver whole-person care to underserved communities across Northern California. Reporting to the Senior Director of Policy and External Affairs, you will lead the charge in developing and executing innovative communications strategies that strengthen our collective impact. This role uniquely balances high-level strategy with hands-on project management, addressing time-sensitive inquiries and collaborating across diverse teams in a fast-paced environment. You will cultivate partnerships with policymakers, coalition members, community allies, and key stakeholders, ensuring our network’s story is told with authenticity, clarity, and impact. You will provide strategic guidance to Aliados Health member health center leadership, setting standards for communications that increase the quality and visibility of our impactful work. You will be a team member of the Policy & External Affairs department, which works with health center leadership to provide a wide range of advocacy, public policy, legislative strategy, and initiatives related to Aliados Health’s mission and strategic plan. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Graphic Design, Public Health, Political Science, Public Affairs or related field is desired.
  • A minimum of three years’ work experience in policy or communications with demonstrated success designing and implementing integrated communications strategies across a range of platforms including traditional and digital media.
  • Excellent editing and writing skills in multiple styles, including technical, policy, persuasive, grant-writing, and outreach.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan diverse work activities, set goals and meet deadlines, and independently and proactively manage workloads.
  • Flexibility to meet changing needs and demands.
  • Collaborative & Responsive: Ability to effectively manage relationships, listen and work effectively with member health centers, internal staff, and the media.
  • Innovative: open to new ideas, and a systems thinker.
  • Commitment to advancing community health center priorities and addressing public health disparities.
  • Occasional travel to member health centers and external meetings and events.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, carry, drive, speak, keyboard, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is performed in a typical office environment as well as outside locations including member health centers, government buildings and community venues.
  • Any final candidate for hire into this position must successfully complete a criminal background check before a final offer of employment is made.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage integrated communications strategies and content, such as press releases, op-eds, public testimony, and organizational updates for the website, newsletters, and social media.
  • Drive brand cohesiveness across departments: create, update, and provide branded templates and materials for staff.
  • Gather and share data and stories and data that highlight our impact for audiences including elected officials, funders, community partners, and the media.
  • Work with staff and member health centers to prepare compelling year-end impact reports, funder summaries, and additional external publications.
  • Manage media relations, including building relationships with media outlets, preparing spokespeople for interviews, and creating content for national, state, and local news outlets.
  • Collaborate with staff to prepare and refine grant applications.
  • Oversee the production and dissemination of presentations, webinars, podcasts, and videos.
  • Support advocacy actions and campaigns, such as the annual Day at the Capitol, by preparing communications materials and talking points for member health centers to advocate to their elected officials.
  • Lead or participate in meetings related to communications, both internally and externally.
