About The Position

Are you a creative communicator with an interest in public service? Do you enjoy writing, designing, and engaging with the community? If so, we're looking for you. What You'll Do As a Communications & Outreach Intern , you will support City Utilities' efforts to inform and engage the community. Working under the direction of the Chief of Communications and Outreach, you'll gain hands-on experience developing materials, supporting events, and learning how public utilities connect with customers and stakeholders. This role offers valuable, real-world experience and portfolio-building opportunities through an individualized learning plan.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university (or pursuing) in communications, journalism, graphic design, or a related field
  • Completion of at least two years of college or technical coursework
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic design, editing, or content creation skills
  • Must follow City policies, procedures, and safety regulations

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing, and supporting community events and outreach efforts
  • Help design and develop communication materials, including brochures, flyers, presentations, newsletters, and web content
  • Support the creation of visual displays and educational materials for public events
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating presentations, tours, and outreach activities
  • Edit and refine outreach and communication materials for clarity and effectiveness
  • Contribute to initiatives related to water quality, recycling, stormwater, and community projects
