About The Position

Communications & Marketing Officer: This role oversees is primarily responsible for the project management and tactical execution of communications projects for the Foundation. Cross-functional project management will be a key component of the role. About us: The Indianapolis Foundation is one of the nation’s first community foundations, established in 1916. What We’re Looking For: The Communications & Marketing Officer plays a vital role in amplifying the mission and impact of the Indianapolis Foundation by implementing the Foundation’s communications strategies. This person works closely with the Foundation’s Senior Director of Communications to refine and execute strategies and tactics in support of the Foundation’s communications goals. The Communications & Marketing Officer reports to the Senior Director of Communications and is primarily responsible for the project management and tactical execution of communications projects for the Foundation. Cross-functional project management will be a key component of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Minimum three or more years of relevant communications experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with knowledge of AP Style.
  • Experience writing and editing multiple types of content, including, but not limited to, newsletter content, byline articles, website content, and stakeholder communications.
  • Experience executing content and engagement via social media, as well as experience with a social media management tool.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
  • Proficient in content management systems, email marketing platforms, and analytics tools.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to take on additional duties to ensure the success of the team.
  • Strong alignment with the Foundation’s mission and values of curiosity , compassion, and integrity. Passion for community impact and inclusive storytelling.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector preferred.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar design tools a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage content calendars and ensure timely, consistent delivery of brand-aligned communications.
  • Manage content and updates for the Indianapolis Foundation website. This includes developing an editorial calendar for content, drafting content, and ensuring the websites are up to date.
  • Create and execute the Foundation’s email newsletters with planning assistance and review/approval from the Senior Director of Communications.
  • Coordinate the project management and implementation of various communications projects, including, but not limited to, videos, reports, media relations initiatives, and website projects.
  • Assist in the implementation of strategies and tactics to highlight the Foundation’s priorities, raise awareness of those priorities, and generate action among stakeholders.
  • Assist in the gathering of research and in the preparation of reports, memos, presentation materials, charts, and other documents as needed to communicate to Foundation staff, the Board, and external audiences.
  • Support the Senior Director of Communications and other Foundation staff on additional assignments as needed.
  • Monitor and optimize campaign performance using analytics and reporting tools.
  • Ensure digital channels are accessible, engaging, and aligned with Indianapolis Foundation’s brand voice.
  • Create multiple types of written content, including, but not limited to, presentations, one-pagers, reports, collateral, thought leadership, announcements, media materials, emails, byline articles, website content, stakeholder communications, and all other necessary content.
  • Collaborate on the development of compelling content (articles, social media, video scripts, email copy) that elevates community voices and reflects the Foundation’s mission.
  • Coordinate with photographers, videographers, and designers as needed.
  • Coordinate the full social media lifecycle with planning assistance and review/approval from the Senior Director of Communications. This includes content development, posting, engagement, and reporting.
  • Oversee day-to-day social media management across platforms.
  • Monitor trends and engagement to optimize content and build community online.
  • Uphold brand standards in all materials and messaging.
  • Ensure consistency in tone, look, and voice across all platforms and departments.
  • Collaborate closely with programs, advancement, and community leadership teams to gather stories, share impact, and drive engagement.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of the Foundation’s events, convenings, and announcements.
  • Support internal communications as needed to reinforce organizational culture.
