AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Atlanta, GA on February 11-12, 2026. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026. The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a networking mixer where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines. On Thursday, interviews will take place at our Atlanta, GA office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities. AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Communications Intern to join our Transportation Group and support communications efforts for 511 Georgia, the state’s official traveler information system. This hands-on internship offers a rare opportunity to work on-site within the Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) Statewide Transportation Management Center (TMC), the hub of real-time traffic operations in Georgia. As an embedded member of the TMC Communications Team, you’ll collaborate directly with agency partners, gain behind‑the‑scenes experience in government communications, and contribute to outreach efforts that impact millions of motorists across Georgia. Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Digital Media, Marketing, Public Relations or in another related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or AI content tools.
  • Photography or video production skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create polished communication materials for multiple platforms, including website copy, blog articles, promotional content, and social media posts.
  • Support multi-format storytelling and contribute to daily writing and editing needs.
  • Develop presentations and materials for community events, stakeholder meetings, and district outreach.
  • Support management of 511GA’s social media platforms, ensuring consistent tone, brand alignment, and community engagement.
  • Assist with live incident coverage during evening rush-hour through 511 Georgia’s social media channels.
  • Collaborate with AECOM and GDOT teams to ensure messaging consistency across all communication touchpoints.
  • Help coordinate and staff outreach events, vendor booths, and public engagement opportunities.
  • Conduct research to support blog posts, campaigns, and communication initiatives.
  • Support execution of strategic communications aligned with GDOT goals.
  • Contribute during emergency operations (i.e. severe weather) as part of the TMC Communications Team.
  • Support tours at the GDOT TMC for partners, stakeholders, and visitors.
  • Participate in district and statewide events to increase awareness of TMC and 511 services.
  • Track performance metrics for social media and campaigns, summarizing insights and recommending improvements.
  • Provide administrative and communications support as needed.
