About The Position

AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Atlanta, GA on February 11-12, 2026. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026. The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a networking mixer where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines. On Thursday, interviews will take place at our Atlanta, GA office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities. AECOM’s Atlanta office is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern to support planning and public engagement efforts for transit, rail, roadway, and multimodal transportation projects. This position provides hands-on experience working alongside senior planners, engineers, and project managers on projects for local, state, and federal clients. The internship is ideal for students interested in transportation planning, public policy, urban planning, or related fields who want exposure to professional consulting, federal and state transportation programs, and community-focused planning.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning, Urban/Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Policy, Geography, or a related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study.
  • Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions.
  • Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience in transportation or transit planning.
  • Familiarity with GIS (ArcGIS or similar).
  • Experience with data analysis or visualization tools.
  • Interest in public engagement and community-based planning.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, or local transportation programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support transportation planning studies, including transit, multimodal, corridor, and long-range planning efforts.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and visualization (e.g., demographic data, travel patterns, GIS mapping).
  • Help prepare technical memoranda, reports, presentations, and graphics.
  • Support public engagement activities, including developing meeting materials, surveys, and outreach content and attending public meetings in communities across Georgia.
  • Assist with grant-related research and documentation (e.g., FTA, FHWA, FRA programs).
  • Participate in project team meetings and coordination activities.
  • Participate in client meetings and coordination activities.
  • Perform general planning and research tasks under the supervision of senior staff.
