About The Position

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City is seeking a media relations specialist to coordinate and support the Bank’s engagement with the news media and other external audiences, and work as part of a team across four offices to identify opportunities to promote the Bank and its impact across its seven-state region and nationally. This position is within the Bank’s Public Affairs, Outreach and Communications Division and reports to the assistant vice president/Public Information Officer.

Requirements

Six to 10-plus years of relevant experience
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a closely related field from an accredited college or university
Excellent verbal and written communication and editing skills
Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Demonstrated ability to develop strategic communication and media engagement plans
Experience in a corporate communications or media relations environment
Ability to use media tracking tools and use information from metrics reports to make content recommendations
Demonstrated ability to effectively represent a mission-driven organization in public settings.
Proficient at translating complex topics for a general audience
Ability to interact effectively with colleagues and leaders throughout a complex organization
Ability to appropriately manage sensitive issues with tact and professionalism
A keen understanding of the external environment and current media landscape

Responsibilities

Manages media relations activities and strategies for the organization and key leaders
Develops proactive media strategy and approaches and pitches bank research and other work to the news media
Develops press releases, media toolkits and other content
Seizes on timely opportunities to promote Bank content with both traditional and new media platforms
Builds relationships with local, national, and trade media
Serves as point of contact for members of the news media
Involved in crisis communication responses, develops crisis communication materials and preparation documents.
Develops and executes key public relations campaigns for the Bank, including influencer and thought leader marketing efforts
Builds relationships with key internal leaders to promote thought leadership
Supports the Bank’s speakers program and identifies appropriate speaking opportunities for senior leaders
Writes content for Bank leaders and provides media coaching for executives and other Bank subject matter experts
Collaborates to public and community outreach efforts
Uses software tools to track and monitor Bank media mentions
Takes on special projects that are often highly visible and sensitive in nature.
Engages with Federal Reserve System colleagues to develop strategies to address common media relations issues.
Familiar with AI tools, specifically within media monitoring software.
