About The Position

The City of Thibodaux is accepting online applications for Communication Officer I (Police Dispatcher) positions. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and pass a series of Civil Service Examinations to be eligible for consideration. The deadline for applications to be submitted is Friday, January 30, 2026 at 12:00 (noon). Any application received after the deadline will not be accepted. The purpose of this position is to receive concerns and complaints for the public regarding police or fire emergencies and broadcast these situations to provide appropriate support for the situation. This is accomplished by relaying instructions and questions from emergency service providers; providing proper record keeping; coordinating police, fire and other emergency vehicles; relaying instructions to the most appropriate unit; performing background checks; and receiving, recording and issuing receipts for fines paid. Multi-tasking is an important function of this position. Applicants who qualify for the position will take the written test on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 2:00p.m. at the Recreation Building at Peltier Park. The Recreation Building is located at 151 Peltier Park Drive, Thibodaux, LA 70301. If an oral exam (interview) is given, applicants will be notified on the written test day when the oral exam (interview) will be administered.
