Commissioning & Service Engineer (Siemens PLC) – Industrial Machinery Location: Plainfield, IL Travel: Project-based (approx. 40–50%) This is a hands-on commissioning role supporting complex industrial machinery in real production environments. The position focuses on system startup, troubleshooting, PLC parameter optimization, and customer-facing technical support. This Role Is NOT a PLC Programming-from-Scratch Position. This role is designed for engineers who enjoy commissioning complex industrial machinery, troubleshooting at a system level, and stabilizing equipment under real production conditions. You will not design PLC architecture from scratch. You will work with machines already engineered and programmed by centralized engineering teams, focusing on commissioning, diagnostics, optimization, and customer-facing system support. If you enjoy understanding machines end-to-end rather than sitting behind a desk writing code, this role is built for you. The U.S. subsidiary in Plainfield, IL operates as a commissioning, service, and training hub for North America and works within a structured European engineering matrix organization. About the Role As the North American installed base continues to grow, the U.S. team is strengthening its hands-on commissioning and troubleshooting capabilities. This position focuses on: Commissioning custom-built capital equipment System-level troubleshooting during startup and service cases PLC parameter adjustments (Siemens TIA Portal preferred) HMI validation and minor modifications Customer training and technical support Supporting lifecycle improvements of installed systems This is not a reactive 24/7 emergency service role. Commissioning projects are structured and planned. New hires are supported through mentoring and joint deployments — you will not be sent alone to customer sites during onboarding. This role is ideal for engineers or advanced technicians with 3–6 years of commissioning, field service, or industrial automation experience who want to deepen their system-level expertise in precision machinery.
