Commercial Roofing Project Manager / Sheet Metal Estimator
About The Position
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Roofing & Architectural Sheet Metal Estimator / Project Manager to support commercial construction projects throughout the Des Moines, IA market. This role blends preconstruction estimating responsibilities with hands-on project management to ensure roofing and metal scope work is completed safely, efficiently, and within budget. The ideal candidate has a strong background in commercial roofing systems, architectural metal fabrication, and building envelope coordination. This position plays a critical role in preparing competitive bids while also overseeing awarded projects from kickoff through closeout.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in commercial roofing and/or architectural sheet metal estimating and project management
- Working knowledge of TPO, EPDM, PVC, metal panel systems, flashing details, and fabrication methods
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
- Experience preparing bid packages and cost analyses
- Strong organizational and multitasking capabilities
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Familiarity with construction management software and estimating platforms
Nice To Haves
- Field experience in roofing or building envelope systems preferred
Responsibilities
- Develop accurate cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, and bid proposals for commercial roofing and sheet metal projects
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents to define scope and pricing
- Manage project execution including scheduling, procurement, and subcontractor coordination
- Track labor, materials, and job costs to maintain profitability
- Coordinate with general contractors, field supervisors, and suppliers throughout the Des Moines region
- Conduct site visits to verify field conditions and monitor installation progress
- Oversee change order preparation and contract documentation
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, quality expectations, and project timelines
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and trade partners
