Commercial Roofing & Architectural Sheet Metal Project Manager / Estimator
About The Position
We are seeking a skilled Architectural Sheet Metal Estimator / Project Manager to lead commercial roofing and metal system projects in Des Moines, IA. This full-time role combines preconstruction estimating expertise with hands-on project oversight, ensuring successful delivery of complex roofing and architectural sheet metal installations. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge of commercial roofing assemblies and fabricated metal systems, along with the ability to manage projects from bid preparation through final completion. This position is critical to maintaining accurate cost forecasting, coordinating subcontractors, and delivering high-quality results throughout the Des Moines region.
Requirements
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in commercial roofing and/or architectural sheet metal
- Proven background in both estimating and project management
- Knowledge of roofing systems (TPO, EPDM, metal roofing) and flashing/detailing practices
- Ability to interpret blueprints and construction specifications accurately
- Experience with estimating platforms and Microsoft Office tools
- Strong budget management and subcontractor coordination skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with Iowa commercial construction practices preferred
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates for commercial roofing and architectural sheet metal scopes
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using construction drawings and specifications
- Evaluate bid documents and prepare labor, material, and equipment cost projections
- Oversee awarded projects from contract execution through closeout
- Coordinate schedules, subcontractors, and vendor procurement
- Negotiate pricing with suppliers to ensure cost-effective purchasing
- Track budgets, manage change orders, and monitor job cost performance
- Conduct jobsite visits to confirm field conditions and scope alignment
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes and safety regulations
- Maintain strong working relationships with general contractors, architects, and clients
