About The Position

KTA-Tator, Inc. KTA’s Commercial Services Group provides building systems consulting and inspection services through a variety of offerings, including building envelope diagnostics with an emphasis on moisture intrusion, masonry, and paint problems, specifying repairs, and providing quality assurance services during remodel projects. KTA is seeking full-time Traveling Commercial Roof & Building Inspectors to perform field inspections of retail box stores across the United States, before, during and after remodel projects. This position is a combination of field inspection and project execution, ideal for experienced building inspectors, roofing inspectors, construction professionals, or insurance claim inspectors who are self-starters that enjoy travel and hands-on investigation of building systems. This is a blend of nationwide travel and home office work depending on location. Travel is structured (typically 2 weeks at a time) and planned in advance. Work that will be performed consists of conducting comprehensive building condition assessments and inspections for commercial properties. The assessment and inspection of conditions include: Identifying exterior coating, sealant, and caulking problems; Conducting and recording results of various types of building diagnostic tests on floors and exterior walls and roofs; Gathering building condition data and measurements of building components and defects; Taking field notes and photographs, and summarizing the results electronically; Interfacing with onsite store managers and building restoration contractors and completing quality assurance reports; and Examining the building envelope for design or construction deficiencies. This position is open to all candidates with the following qualifications: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Building Construction or related field – preferred Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) Basic coatings credentials – preferred Ability to travel extensively ~70% of the time (~2-week rotations, on occasion traveling up to 4 weeks at a time) Experience with insurance property inspections, catastrophe inspections, or roof inspection is highly transferable to this role Experience with reading, interpreting, and editing/revising blueprints or as-built drawings (utilizing construction software such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Autodesk) – desired Experience with construction, repair, painting and/or renovation of retail buildings Experience with concrete slabs, masonry construction, and/or roofing – preferred Experience using a laptop and iPad Proficiency with Word and Excel Strong written and oral communication skills Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (IRS allowable rate of milage is paid) KTA has company vehicles, however, there still may be situations that require use of a personal vehicle with paid mileage. Drug testing and a criminal background and motor vehicle check will be conducted.
