About The Position

Willdan has provided  Building and Safety services for 60 years, working with municipalities, university systems, healthcare facilities, and tribal entities. Our experience includes a range of technical expertise to service your facilities, such as permit issuance, building plan review, building inspection, grading and accessibility plan review and inspection, flood zone experience, fire-life safety plan review, building official services, code enforcement, emergency safety assessment, and disaster recovery. Public Agency Resources (PARS), a subsidiary of Willdan Group Inc., has an opening for a full-time Building Code Inspector in the Pelham, NY area.

Requirements

  • NYS Department of State Code Enforcement certification (required).
  • Experience in building construction, inspection, or a related field (e.g., architecture, engineering).
  • Knowledge of building materials, fire safety standards, and construction methods.
  • Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license.
  • Identification of New York State approved in-service Code training courses.
  • Thorough understanding of the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code [https://www.co.essex.ny.us/jobdescriptions/Code%20Enforcement%20Officer.pdf] and local zoning laws.
  • Ability to read/interpret construction plans and technical documents, and communicate effectively with the public.
  • Proficient in using computer applications for record-keeping and permit tracking.
  • Ability to exercise firmness, tact, and impartiality in enforcing regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections before, during, and after construction to ensure that the building and construction site complies with safety, structural, and building code regulations.
  • Issue violation notices, stop-work orders, and permits for construction.
  • Document results of inspections.
  • Effectively communicate findings to homeowners and contractors.
  • Coordinate with and assist other field inspectors. Pick up extra inspections as needed.
  • Explain and clarify code related problems with contractor field personnel.
  • Communicate and uphold standards consistently.
  • Conduct building damage assessment inspections.
  • Invest time in continued education.
  • Provide training and mentoring to current inspectors, coordinate and assist in selection and training of new staff.
  • Follow up on phone calls and compliant issues.
  • Handle customer service issues for walk-ins that need clarification on code-related issues.
  • Serve as a resource for inspectors in the field.
  • Interpret and apply standards and regulations for Building, Electrical, Elevator, Mechanical, Plumbing.
  • Conduct ride along with field inspectors to provide ongoing supervision and feedback regarding job performance and consistency on filed calls.
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of inspections; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
