Commercial Generator Install and Service Technician
About The Position
We are seeking a full-time, experienced Commercial Generator Install & Service Technician to join our team. This role is ideal for a self-motivated, dependable technician with a strong electrical background who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial generator systems, ensuring reliable power solutions for our customers. You’ll work on a wide range of generator sizes and applications while upholding the highest safety and quality standards. You’ll be a key member of our Commercial Energy Products team, joining a company with a long-standing history in the energy industry and a strong commitment to safety, training, and employee growth.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred
- 3+ years of commercial electrical or generator installation/service experience
- Knowledge of NEC, electrical regulations, and safety standards
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams
- Experience with transfer switches, controls, and generator diagnostics preferred
- Basic mechanical and pipe-fitting knowledge a plus
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently
- Professional, reliable, and safety-focused work ethic
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 100 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
Responsibilities
- Install, wire, and commission commercial generator systems in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and electrical codes
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and service on standby and prime power generators
- Diagnose and repair electrical, control, and mechanical issues related to generator systems, transfer switches, and associated equipment
- Conduct load bank testing and other performance diagnostics
- Troubleshoot electrical circuits, controls, wiring, and components to ensure proper operation
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure proper integration of generators into existing electrical systems
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Complete accurate service reports, inspection records, and test documentation
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding system performance, recommendations, and service needs
- Follow all electrical codes, safety regulations, and company safety policies
- Stay current with industry standards, electrical code updates, and emerging generator technologies
- Assist with installation projects for the Commercial Energy Products team, including EV chargers and Battery/Energy Storage Systems.
