About The Position

Under the mentorship of more senior Commercial Bankers, the Commercial Banker I is responsible for the relationship management of an existing and growing commercial loan and deposit portfolio that will provide maximum profitability to the bank while adhering to the bank’s risk tolerance.   This high customer contact position requires the ability to initiate and develop prospective and current client relationships through a proactive and professional sales approach.  In addition, this position will assist with the underwriting process of simple to intermediate credits across the portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related business field and 0-5 years of experience in a Commercial Banking role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Most possess valid driver’s license, reliable transportation.
  • Accounting: Advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Capacity for assessing and interpreting numerical data, and describing effectively in narrative format.
  • Judgement and Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions. Displays willingness to make decisions; Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; Supports and explains reasoning for decisions; Includes appropriate people in decision-making process; Makes timely decisions.
  • Sales Skills: Analyze customer needs, make appropriate recommendations, educate customers and grow business of the bank.
  • Customer Service: Advanced ability to fulfill the needs of internal and external customers by anticipating their needs and delivering timely and accurate communication and follow through.
  • Technical: Beginning knowledge of credit analysis. Must have a strong working knowledge and experience in commercial banking products. Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory requirements required. A self-user and promoter of technology. PC and Microsoft Office Product proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Applies product and service knowledge to effectively meet customer and/or prospect banking needs.
  • Solicits and develops new loan and deposit business to meet or exceed annual production goals.
  • Collects and analyzes financial data of simple to intermediate customers and/or prospects to determine credit worthiness and develop an appropriate loan structure.
  • Determines approval or rejection of loan applications in accordance with bank policy and communicate same to applicant.
  • Negotiates terms including costs, collateral requirements, repayment methods and rates to successfully obtain new business and retain existing customers.
  • Monitors loan repayment and assist in collection or coordination of payments to minimize delinquency and meet bank standards.
  • Conducts periodic customer meetings to enhance customer retention and assist with the annual review process.
  • Maintains professional communication and conduct with all clients, prospects and associates.
  • Cross sells additional bank services, making recommendations for customer consideration and referring leads to Consumer, Investment, and Mortgage teams.
  • Uses all available resources to provide value-added advice and/or recommendations for the potential improvement of customer’s business operations, productivity, etc., as appropriate.
  • Meets and/or exceeds all individual sales goals, while assisting Commercial Services Team in accomplishing its Strategic Business Plan and Budget.
  • Actively participates in community organizations and events to increase the bank’s visibility and image in order to build a solid referral network.
  • Maintains and promotes a superior level of professional customer service and Team Member relations at all times. Proactively provides solutions and resolves customer concerns and requests.
  • Participates in professional organizations to enhance further personal development.
  • Undertake special projects and/or assignments as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with and adhere to all state and federal regulations and bank policies and procedures, including, but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, FACT ACT, Community Reinvestment Act, and EEO/AA/Fair Employment Practices.
