Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond? Pratt & Whitney, a division of RTX Corporation, is seeking a passionate and highly skilled engineer to join our team of innovators and problem-solvers. We are at the forefront of engineering advanced propulsion systems for both commercial and defense applications, and we are looking for a professional who is ready to contribute their expertise to the development and analysis of cutting-edge combustor technologies. As a member of the combustor aero team, you will play a critical role in the design and development and support of of gas turbine combustors across all of P&W’s products. You are expected to bring a strong technical background, the ability to work independently on complex tasks, and a collaborative mindset to support team objectives. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior team members and may lead smaller projects or initiatives to drive design innovation and productivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in combustor modeling, CFD, or gas turbine combustion analysis or an Advanced degree and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Proficiency with modeling tools such as ANSYS Fluent, CFX, or similar CFD software.
  • Strong understanding of combustion processes, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex assignments while contributing to team goals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and effective communication abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a focus on combustion or fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with emissions modeling and low-emission combustor design.
  • Familiarity with gas turbine design cycles and system-level integration.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++ for tool development and data analysis.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading smaller technical initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop and execute models using in-house and state of the art software to analyze combustor performance, including temperature distributions, emissions, and overall efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify design improvements and optimize performance.
  • Validate modeling results through experimental data and connections to fleet data and field hardware observations.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on combustor design efforts by offering detailed analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Drive enhancements to existing modeling techniques and tools to improve accuracy and productivity.
  • Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations to internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Lead smaller-scale, focused initiatives or projects related to combustor design and analysis.
