About The Position

Children’s Hospital Colorado Springs is a tertiary, community-based hospital serving Southern Colorado since its opening in 2019. A 115-bed Level II Trauma Center, we provide comprehensive pediatric care with a 49-bed Med/Surgical Unit, a 16-bed PICU, and a 50-bed NICU. In 2024, we cared for over 8,000 admissions, performed 5,400 surgeries, and welcomed 38,000 patients in our Emergency Department. The Colorado Springs Medical Director for Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) provides strategic and operational leadership for inpatient pediatric care at Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs. In close partnership with Nursing leadership, Clinical Directors/Managers, and the CHCO-COS Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Medical Director ensures delivery of safe, high-quality, efficient, and patient- and family-centered care aligned with the mission and values of Children’s Hospital Colorado. The Medical Director collaborates with physician leaders across Southern Colorado, PHM Section leadership, and key institutional partners including Quality and Patient Safety, Clinical Effectiveness, Patient and Family Experience, Informatics, Pharmacy, and Business leadership. The role serves as a champion for CHCO initiatives related to clinical operations, quality, safety, and patient and provider experience, and supports the Section’s partnerships with community hospitals providing pediatric and newborn care in Southern Colorado.

Requirements

  • MD or DO
  • Board Certified/Eligible in Pediatrics or Pediatric Hospital Medicine
  • Clinically active Pediatric Hospital Medicine provider
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive accomplishments in clinical leadership
  • Proven administrative experience in the field of Pediatric Hospital Medicine

Responsibilities

  • Provide physician leadership for inpatient pediatric care delivery at CHCO-COS
  • Develop, implement, and monitor clinical standards of care
  • Partner with nursing and operational leaders to optimize staffing, throughput, and care models; ensure effective call schedules and clinical coverage
  • Lead and support multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives
  • Communicate policies, expectations, and operational updates to providers
  • Support provider orientation, education, performance evaluation, and engagement
  • Champion timely, high-quality clinical documentation
  • Development and review of site-specific performance metrics
