About The Position

As a Color Chemist at PPG, you will formulate new colors and adjust existing colors, using applicable digital color tools and resources for the Automotive OEM customers. You will partner with technical experts to launch new products in multiple technologies, adhering to internal best practices and requirements. The base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000, with a possibility of an annual bonus up to 7% of base salary. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science, mathematics or other related discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in laboratory work & formulating water or solvent base materials
  • Color matching or shading experience
  • Project management or supervision experience
  • Pass color blindness test
  • Communicates both orally and in writing focusing on data documentation and analysis of results.
  • Effectively read, write, and communicate in English

Responsibilities

  • Follow all PPG safety protocols and in a laboratory work environment.
  • Help develop and implement color process best practices.
  • Apply knowledge of chemistry, mathematical calculations, and color science to develop products in collaboration with technical experts.
  • Prepare, testing, adjusting paint samples, and learning methodology and art of color formulation and paint application.
  • Positively contribute in a team environment, collaborate with team members, actively seek out knowledge.
  • Formulate and record new formulations in internal PPG Software (LFA, Hybrid Color etc.)
  • Coordinating, conducting and evaluating experiments, reporting results for internal project hand-offs.
  • Problem solves testing failures and color matches using established formulation practices and design requirements.
  • Match new colors with the ability to match in multiple technologies.
  • Knowledgeable in color equipment and instrumentation.
  • Experience with reflectance curves, color tolerances, light sources, and metamerism.
