MSD DIVISION OF COMPLIANCE SERVICES (CSD) - SAMPLING Mission:To establish a partnership with colleges and universities, exposing as many students as possible to employment opportunities in the Wastewater Industry and to help them become experienced professionals in the next generation workforce. Purpose:To attract and cultivate bright and energetic college students and maintain ongoing partnerships with colleges and universities. It is our goal to expose these students to our Industrial Customers as well as career opportunities in water resource management and the environmental sciences. The Co-op program also serves as a recruitment tool to assist the Compliance Services Division (CSD) in hiring full-time personnel. Overview: The Co-op student will be assigned to work with the Sampling Group. Under the supervision of a Senior Chemist and pre-treatment specialists, Co-ops will be exposed to various tasks performed in the Sampling Group, specifically permit sampling for industries and treatment plants. Co-op will be trained on sample collection methods as well as equipment maintenance and software usage. The CSD Sampling Group strives to reinforce the knowledge and skills the students have learned in the classroom and to build on those skills in a setting that provides "hands on" experience with a specific project. Expectations: The Co-op student will be assigned to work with MSD's pretreatment specialists. They will be performing a variety of functions including preservation, collection, tracking and delivery of permit samples for pretreatment and surcharge locations. They will also learn to calibrate and use sampling field equipment. This co-op position will involve a combination of lab work, field work and office work.
