About The Position

The purpose of the Coating Console Operator is responsible for operation of the coater to apply latex compound to the greige carpet and adhesive to the secondary backing, then marrying the two together and curing them in the oven to make a finished piece of carpet on the latex line. Operator operates all drives that control coater operation. Application of topicals is also the operators responsibility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to read and write and do basic addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication in English.
  • Computer knowledge or data entry skills are a necessary part of the job.
  • Lifting is required on cups, and buckets weighing approximately 25 lbs. 30 times per shift.
  • Standing is required but varies per shift 4 to 12 hours.
  • Reaching is required for cups, buckets, and tools approximately 40 times per shift.
  • Stooping is required for cups, buckets, and tools approximately 40 times per shift.
  • Bending is required for cups, buckets, and tools approximately 40 times per shift.
  • Climbing of stairs and ladders is occasionally required.
  • Must be able to use wrenches.
  • Overtime is required on occasion.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to adjust drives and burner temperatures to create optimal drying and curing of carpet with regards to styling without creating off quality.
  • Observe the level of latex in the application area.
  • Adjust applicator rolls and speeds to achieve specified application levels of latex compound in the precoat and skipcoat.
  • Make necessary adjustments as styles change.
  • Co-directs and instructs coater personnel in changes necessary for correct operation of equipment.
  • Assist in cleaning of applicator rolls and pans each day of operation.
  • Control application of topicals to carpet on the latex line.
  • Prepare by knowing schedule and upcoming styles.
  • Monitor latex cup weight, record, and make adjustments.
  • Advise supervisor of improper performance of the equipment.
  • Observe the pinning of the carpet at the pre-tenter and make necessary adjustments.
  • Keep work area clean.
  • Knowledge of use of the Mahlo to control bow and skew in pattern goods properly.
  • All accidents/incidents must be reported immediately.
  • Perform any other duties as required by management.
  • Safety equipment must be worn when required and safety requirements followed in all areas.
  • Report to management any safety, quality, or production issues while performing the job.
  • Responsible for safety, quality and productivity of output.
