About The Position

Saab Inc.’s Land Systems division is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op with an interest in weapon systems design, development, and production support. Build your resume and enhance your marketability with real-world, hands-on experience through a Co-Op/Internship opportunity! Mechanical Engineering Co-Ops will: Work closely with the Mechanical Engineering team on the development of shoulder-fired munitions and precision fire systems. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, program management, the chief engineer, and additional functions to accomplish assigned tasks. Support design, development, and production activities for cutting-edge weapon systems. Work on projects relevant to aerospace and defense systems. Gain hands-on experience in weapon systems engineering. This is a full-time, on-site position at Auburn Hills, MI, for our summer term (May through early August 2026). Compensation Range: $20 - $22/hour In addition to a competitive hourly rate, Saab Inc. provides a sign-on bonus to help offset housing expenses for Co-Ops who live outside the typical office commuting distance. The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program with a major in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Completion of Sophomore year or above.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic and technically challenging environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks).
  • Hands-on experience with machining, 3D printing, or automotive repair.
  • Previous aerospace or defense work/experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset, with a strong desire to learn and the ability to accept and implement constructive feedback.
