About The Position

The CNC Workshop Scheduler / Planner is responsible for ensuring efficient and on-time operation of the machine shop within the X-energy Technology Advancement Center (XTAC). This role oversees the intake of new job requests, coordinates job approval workflows, and develops detailed production schedules that optimize resources and support manufacturing activities. Additional responsibilities include managing material and tooling procurement, tracking work progress, mitigating schedule risks, and communicating regularly with engineering, purchasing, and workshop leadership. Work is conducted on-site in a manufacturing test facility. The individual must be able to walk, stand, communicate effectively, and move throughout the facility during the workday. The role may involve exposure to rotating equipment, noise, vibration, and hazardous chemicals. Candidates must be capable of pushing, pulling, lifting, or moving up to 25 pounds.

Requirements

  • Typically 4-6 years of experience in a manufacturing scheduling role
  • Full ownership of day-to-day production scheduling
  • Proficient in ERP systems – can run reports, adjust schedules, and resolve most errors independently
  • Solid understanding of capacity planning, bottlenecks, and material availability
  • Ability to prioritize and re-sequence jobs based on customer needs and shop load
  • First point of contact for scheduling changes and customer expedites
  • Experience with lean manufacturing concepts and workflow optimization
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency with scheduling tools such as Excel, MS Project, or ERP/MRP systems.
  • Experience collecting, organizing, and maintaining technical data and production records.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with machining processes, CNC equipment, and tooling fundamentals.
  • Basic proficiency with computer applications and electronic data systems.
  • Ability to push, pull, move, and lift at least 25 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or formal training in machining, mechanical technology, mechatronics, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute core scheduling and planning functions with minimal supervision
  • Develop and maintain daily and weekly production schedules
  • Coordinate material requirements and ensure availability for production
  • Monitor shop capacity and recommend adjustments to optimize workflow
  • Address scheduling conflicts and implement solutions
  • Serve as liaison between production floor and engineering teams
  • Analyze schedule performance and identify potential improvements
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize daily, weekly, and long-range machine shop schedules.
  • Prioritize jobs according to due dates, program requirements, and resource availability.
  • Ensure all materials, tooling, fixtures, and labor resources are available to support scheduled work.
  • Track job progress, identify delays or bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate schedules and work orders in ERP/MRP or scheduling systems.
  • Communicate schedule updates, risks, and impacts to engineering, test teams, and workshop management.
  • Manage procurement for raw materials, tooling, consumables, and shop supplies.
  • Maintain inventory levels to support ongoing and upcoming production activities.
  • Serve as liaison with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely deliveries and resolve supply issues.
  • Coordinate planning and purchasing activities with the Workshop Manager, Purchasing, and Engineering.
  • Assist with the intake and approval process for new jobs, ensuring readiness for scheduling.
  • Report schedule deviations, equipment downtime, and other issues to the Workshop Manager.
  • Support equipment maintenance planning and coordinate with technicians or vendors as needed.
  • Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities, including process optimization and workflow enhancements.
  • Follow all safety policies and use required personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings, drills, and emergency response procedures.
  • Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor in all communications.
  • Assist in introducing new processes or technologies by determining scheduling and resource requirements.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by management.
