About The Position

The CNC Technical Specialist is part of Teague’s dynamic mockup and prototype team, supporting the fabrication of complex parts used in large-scale prototypes and design models. This role develops and optimizes CNC programs using Mastercam for a variety of machines - including 3, 4, and 5-axis mills, CNC routers, and hotwire cutters - ensuring efficient cutting strategies and high-quality results across a wide range of materials. Working in Teague’s Design Realization Center, the position partners closely with designers and builders to translate CAD models, drawings, and conceptual designs into accurate, fabricated components. The role balances technical programming expertise with hands-on shop work, including machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, and verification of finished parts. Success in this role requires strong blueprint reading, inspection skills, and a deep understanding of fabrication processes. The CNC Technical Specialist plays a key role in ensuring that every part produced meets Teague’s standards for precision, quality, and efficiency while supporting the fast-paced needs of a prototype environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal apprenticeship, technical degree, or equivalent training in machining, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience programming and operating CNC machines in a fabrication, manufacturing, or prototype environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Mastercam and experience developing and optimizing CNC programs.
  • Experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC 3, 4, and 5-axis mills, CNC routers, and hotwire cutting systems.
  • Experience working with a variety of materials including EPS foam, plywood, composites, aluminum, acrylic, Sintra, tooling board, and related fabrication materials.
  • Ability to interpret CAD models, technical drawings, and sketches and translate them into machining strategies and fabrication plans.
  • Proficiency using precision inspection tools such as micrometers, indicators, thread gauges, and bore gauges.
  • Working knowledge of construction mathematics and measurement systems.
  • Experience using hand and power tools commonly found in fabrication and prototype shops.
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage machining and fabrication tasks from start to finish, demonstrating initiative, accountability, and strong time management with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain familiarity with troubleshooting and routine maintenance of machine tools and shop equipment to support reliable performance and production continuity.
  • Build collaborative working relationships with designers, builders, and technical team members to ensure smooth communication and successful project outcomes.
  • Adapt to evolving project priorities by supporting additional fabrication or technical tasks as needed.
  • Interpret complex CAD models, technical drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions to determine appropriate machining strategies.
  • Consult with experienced team members and collaborators to determine the best approaches for mockup fabrication, assembly, and installation.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving to optimize machining strategies, material use, and fabrication workflows.
  • Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam for multiple machine platforms, ensuring efficient toolpaths and accurate results.
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC equipment including 3, 4, and 5-axis mills, CNC routers, and hotwire cutting systems.
  • Fabricate high-precision parts and components while ensuring work meets drawing specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.
  • Verify part accuracy using precision inspection tools such as micrometers, indicators, bore gauges, and thread gauges.
  • Operate manual machinery and fabrication tools as needed to support prototype builds.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment that supports efficient fabrication and high-quality output.
  • Contribute to Teague’s safety culture by following established safety procedures and proactively identifying potential hazards.
