About The Position

Highly skilled CNC Programmer/Machinist responsible for programming, setting up, and operating multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to produce precision components in a job-shop environment.

Requirements

  • 10 years’ experience in a job shop environment programming and running parts OR
  • 5 years’ experience in a job shop environment programming and running parts and a Machine Tool Diploma from a Technical College
  • Ability to program 3 and 4 axis CNC mills and 2 axis lathes
  • Ability to set up and operate 3 and 4 axis mills and 2 axis lathes
  • Have own measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, etc.)
  • Can verify parts meet quality expectations and are dimensionally accurate
  • Knowledge of Solidworks
  • Experience programming with Solidcam or other CNC programming software
  • Ability to produce quality parts from drawings and solid models
  • Ability to design and manufacture needed tooling and fixturing to machine parts
  • Able to problem solve various machining related problems
  • Ability to choose and source correct tooling to complete unique machining jobs

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Haas Mill and Lathe controls a plus
  • Knowledge of sheet metal forming a plus

Responsibilities

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference plans, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Maintain work and shop areas to a clean and safe environment.
  • Requires minimal supervision to perform all assigned tasks.
  • Know, understand, follow, promote, and continuously improve company policies and procedures.
  • Observe all safety, environmental, and general housekeeping rules and policies.
  • Construct tooling fixtures, and any special tooling as needed.
  • Document all work accomplished in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to accomplish sheet metal repairs or modifications, (i.e. micrometers, calipers, protractors, scales, etc.)
