About The Position

The CMM Operator/Programmer is responsible for performing dimensional inspections using Coordinate Measuring Machines and other precision measurement tools. This role also includes creating, modifying, and optimizing CMM programs to ensure accurate, efficient, and repeatable inspection processes. Additional responsibilities include calibration of check fixtures and measuring devices, supporting engineering and manufacturing teams, and ensuring all products meet customer and internal quality requirements.

Requirements

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, CAD models, math data, reports, instructions, and guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficient in MSA and SPC (training can be provided).
  • Proficient in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gages, etc.).
  • Experience with CMM programming software (PC‑DMIS, Calypso, or similar).
  • Strong computer skills in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills related to measurement and dimensional variation.
  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Three years of related experience and/or training recommended, including CMM operation and programming; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform layout inspection of parts, assemblies, inspection fixtures, and gages using a Coordinate Measuring Machine or other appropriate measuring devices.
  • Inspect manufactured parts to ensure hole locations, contour measurements, and shapes conform to part print specifications and prescribed tolerances.
  • Conduct miscellaneous surface plate inspections and hand‑held gage setup/calibration as required.
  • Adhere to customer layout standards and methodologies.
  • Investigate instances of mismeasurement; identify, research, analyze, and report measurement problems.
  • Interact with Manufacturing and Engineering personnel regarding part conformance and process capability.
  • Assist in training other employees in CMM operation.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work areas and comply with all safety regulations.
  • Create, edit, and optimize dimensional inspection programs for the CMM using approved software (e.g., PC‑DMIS, Calypso, or equivalent).
  • Develop program setup sheets, execution instructions, and documentation to ensure repeatability and clarity for operators.
  • Validate new programs by performing first‑article inspections and troubleshooting program logic, probe paths, and measurement strategies.
  • Select appropriate probing strategies, alignments, and measurement routines based on part geometry, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Continuously improve program efficiency by reducing cycle time, improving measurement accuracy, and standardizing programming methods.
  • Support new product introduction by developing CMM programs from CAD models, blueprints, and engineering data.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to review part designs for inspectability and provide feedback on GD&T application.
  • Maintain organized program libraries, revision control, and documentation in accordance with company quality procedures.
  • Understand, implement, and maintain the company’s quality policy through accurate performance of all duties.
  • Ensure all inspection processes comply with internal procedures, customer requirements, and industry standards.
