About The Position

A CMM Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) to ensure precision in measuring manufactured parts and components.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-5 years of experience operating CMMs or in a similar inspection role, depending on the level of the position.
  • Proficiency in CMM programming and use of relevant software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, CMM Manager)
  • Understanding and ability to define and communicate (both verbally & written) non-conformances to shop personnel, vendors, and customers
  • Ability to interpret complex drawings & specs for machined parts from casting, forgings, sheet metal and bar stock
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Mathematical skills such as the ability to calculate figures and amounts. It also requires the ability to apply and perform basic concepts of algebra, geometry, and trig
  • Self-starter and require minimal supervision
  • Effective teamwork, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Position may require use of hands & arms with repetitive motion & reach.
  • Position may require manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment.
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Position may require the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Position may require the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Position may require bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
  • Position may require the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 30-75 pounds (50-75 lbs. would have partner assistance)
  • Position may require activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CMM Equipment: Setup and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines to perform inspections and measurements of various components, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
  • Programming and Calibration: Develop and document measurement programs, including the selection of appropriate probes and fixtures. Perform routine maintenance and calibration checks on CMM equipment.
  • Quality Control: Verify that components meet quality standards by conducting inspections and documenting results. Report any discrepancies or non-conformances to the quality supervisor.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and production teams to troubleshoot quality issues and implement corrective actions. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to quality and process efficiency.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of measurements and inspection results, and compile data for capability studies.
  • Read & interpret blueprints, specifications & other internal documents
  • Perform dimensional inspection of manufactured components & assemblies which include first part buy-off and final lot inspection per inspection documentation or traveler.
  • Approves finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement
  • Use of and completion of AS9102 documents
  • Use of inspection equipment such as gages/tooling
  • Calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment.
