About The Position

This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Homewood, set on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Homewood, California. Homewood is seeking a Club Controller to join the Finance and Accounting Department. The Club Controller will direct the financial affairs of the Club and prepare financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules, for the guidance of management. The Club Controller is responsible for the Club’s financial plans, the accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions and the financial community, the maintenance of its fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports. The position involves supervision over general accounting, property accounting, internal auditing, cost accounting, and budgetary controls. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an accounting or business-related field preferred.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years of work experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • Power user skills with Excel in spreadsheet usage and creation for financial budgets, analysis, and forecasting.
  • Must have solid typing skills and in-depth experience using Word and Outlook email.
  • Experience supervising professional and clerical staff.
  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Long hours may be required due to business demands.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA and/or MBA in finance or accounting preferred.
  • Jonas accounting software experience is a preferred.

Responsibilities

  • With the guidance from ownership, establishes major economic objectives and is responsible for the preparation of all financial reports that outline the Club’s financial position in the area of income, expense and earnings based on past, present and future operations and conditions.
  • Maintains the Club’s books and ensures that all company transactions and assets are properly recorded.
  • Is familiar with the principals and applications of generally accepted accounting principles, the Internal Revenue Service and State taxation requirements, and assures recordation of all transactions in compliance thereof.
  • Supports the preparation of the capital budget and planning including; leasing and other forms of financing, reserves and replacements.
  • Determines applicable depreciation and recovery rates to apply to capitalized assets and advises management on such matters.
  • Responsible for maintaining and keeping compliance on all licenses.
  • Supports cash management and treasury functions – including cash flow projection and analysis, banking, debt and handling of cash and short-term assets.
  • Oversee the policies and procedures for effective club accounting and control systems including club IT systems.
  • Provide training, guidance, and support of backfilled role and future club controller(s).
