About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is seeking a resilient Clinical Support Specialist to join our mental health team at the Reception and Treatment Center. This role works under the direction of the Mental Health Supervisor to provide essential care within a correctional residential setting. The Clinical Support Specialist role requires a collaborative professional dedicated to ongoing mental health training and the delivery of high-impact, structured support. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in criminal justice, behavioral science, human services or related field OR two years of experience working with persons referred through the legal system.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license to occasionally transport inmates.
  • Transcripts required at time of appointment.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time pass a drug test.
  • Must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of corrections experience or experience working in the mental health field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead psychoeducational classes.
  • Interact with incarcerated individuals to instruct and orient to mental health residential units and programming.
  • Provide verbal de-escalation for residential/programming participants.
  • Provide input into individualized treatment plans.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, staff meetings, and informal consultations.
  • Support individuals with daily living and therapeutic activities.
  • Attend Mental Health trainings and any additional training deemed necessary for the position.
  • Write incident reports and contact notes.
  • Develop and implement behavioral baselines.
  • Review individualized treatment plans to support goals and objectives.
  • Work under supervision and direction of the Mental Health supervisor.
