Requirements

  • NYS RN license in good standing
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities, or related health care settings.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of experience
  • Word processing, Internet software, E-mail, Database software.
  • A valid New York State Driver’s License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.

  • Knowledge of OPWDD regulations and interdisciplinary team coordination

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervision, mentoring, and performance evaluation for direct reports which include Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and other clinical staff.
  • Supports the department staff in providing high-quality care to individuals with IDD.
  • Develops and manages of the nursing on-call schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage.
  • Participates in the hiring, orientation, training, and evaluation of department staff by engaging in the interview process, ensuring new hires are properly trained on agency and OPWDD requirements, and evaluating progress during their orientation period.
  • Ensures compliance with all agency policy’s, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitors clinical documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with OPWDD, DOH, and Medicaid standards.
  • Participates in agency audits, surveys, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serves as liaison between nursing staff, residential/day program managers, families, physicians, and external providers.
  • Communicates effectively with all stakeholders to ensure continuity of care.
