About The Position

Mass General Brigham, a not-for-profit organization, supports patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care. Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, a 171-bed non-profit community teaching hospital in Jamaica Plain, is part of this system and is a designated Magnet hospital. The Clinical Social Worker is responsible for managing assigned patient caseloads across inpatient medicine and surgery, the Addiction Recovery Program, or the emergency department. This role involves providing bio-psychosocial assessments and interventions for patients and their families, addressing acute medical needs and psychosocial factors impacting care. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, the social worker identifies high-risk psychosocial factors, helps staff understand their influence on patient care, and intervenes through evaluation, emotional supportive therapy, resource provision, and team collaboration to overcome barriers to care and facilitate discharge planning. The social worker must be knowledgeable in mandated reporting, cultural and age-specific impacts, homelessness, substance use disorders, psychiatric illness, and available community resources. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited program
  • Current professional licensure in Massachusetts (LCSW required)
  • Minimum of graduate level internship experience in appropriate setting
  • Knowledge of specific medical/psychiatric illnesses, procedures and treatments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation skills necessary to work within a team
  • Ability to provide rapid clinical psychosocial assessments and interventions with individuals and families
  • Advanced crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of community agencies/resources
  • Ability to advocate/negotiate systems for/with patients
  • Tolerance for ambiguity
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards
  • Clinical Social Worker I: Clinical Experience in a medical setting 0-1 years required
  • Clinical Social Worker II: Clinical Experience in a medical setting 2-3 years required

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to lead groups for inpatient addiction program is preferred
  • LICSW preferred
  • Minimum of one year experience working in a health care setting or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assuming assigned patient caseloads on inpatient medicine and surgery, Addiction Recovery Program, or emergency department
  • Provide bio-psychosocial assessments and interventions for patients and/or families impacted by a patient’s acute medical needs and any psychosocial factors or barriers impacting their care
  • Identify high risk psychosocial factors impacting a patient’s health status
  • Help the hospital staff understand the influence of psychosocial factors on the patient’s course of medical care
  • Effectively intervene through evaluation, emotional supportive therapy and/or other therapeutic modality, provision of resources and recommendations, and team collaboration around potential barriers to care in the community and around discharge needs
