About The Position

The Clinical Manager will collaborate with the COO and Manager of Clinical Operations and Training to enhance patient care, ensure adherence to best practices, and boost clinical productivity through regular clinic audits. Key responsibilities include organizing and leading clinical team meetings, which cover CPR training, continuing education events, and instruction on new technologies. The manager is also tasked with integrating information technology into clinical operations, implementing and enforcing clinical protocols, and monitoring performance metrics for field technicians. This role involves overseeing the introduction of new services, managing clinical training and evaluation programs, and identifying further training needs for technicians. Additionally, the Clinical Manager will review testing procedures, arrange ongoing staff training and competency testing, ensure proper maintenance of ophthalmic equipment, provide continuing education, and resolve pre-surgery issues and medical emergencies. The position also requires mediating staff disputes and providing support to the practice manager when needed.

Requirements

  • Five to 10 years of experience in ophthalmic practices.
  • Strong leadership and business operations experience required.
  • Dependable transportation required to travel to other offices as required.
  • Must be flexible with traveling to various locations.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Customer and patient service orientation: prompt response to patient needs and ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations with tact, empathy and diplomacy.
  • Displays positive outlook and pleasant manner, does not instigate or participate in office gossip or negativity, keeps commitments.
  • Dresses appropriately and is well groomed.

  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without accommodation, including the ability to use power hand tools and lift a minimum of 70 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of three years of administrative and managerial experience, increasing in complexity, including the supervision of clinical professionals.
  • Bachelors in related field or nursing degree.
  • Certified ophthalmic medical technologist or licensed optometrist with appropriate experience.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the COO and the Manager of Clinical Operations and Training to conduct clinic audits that assess clinical practices for optimizing patient care, following best evidence of care guidelines, and increasing clinical production.
  • Conduct regular clinical team meetings including CPR training, clinical CE events, and training on new technologies and equipment.
  • Facilitate the use of information technology and works with the Operations Team to prepare staff to continue to serve patients in a world of expanding knowledge and rapid change.
  • Implement and enforce clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Measure and update the established metrics for key areas of measurement within operations and hold field technicians accountable to achieve or exceed these goals.
  • Oversee the implementation of new/expanded services.
  • Manage the clinical training and evaluation programs for field technicians per the AVP clinical training guidelines.
  • Work with technicians to identify the need for new clinical training.
  • Review testing procedures, test scheduling and documentation.
  • Provide or arrange for ongoing training for clinical staff.
  • Provide or arrange competency testing for clinical staff.
  • Ensure scheduling and performance of proper maintenance and calibration of all ophthalmic equipment.
  • Provide continuing education resources to staff and remedial guidance to those that fall below practice standards.
  • Troubleshoot any problems that arise at any time prior to surgery.
  • Follow through on outcomes of medical emergencies; recommends processes for change as applicable.
  • Mediate any disputes among clinical employees.
  • Provide support to the practice manager in his or her absence.
  • Participate in in-service and ongoing education programs.
  • Develop and implement personal action plans for performance improvement.
  • Conduct self-evaluation and participate in developmental goal setting.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
