About The Position

Iona University’s New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Nursing and Health Sciences invites applications for a Full-Time Clinical Lecturer position in its COAMFTE-accredited MS in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program for August 2026. We seek a clinician-scholar with strong grounding in COAMFTE standards, demonstrated excellence in graduate teaching, and a clear commitment to social justice, student mentorship, and self-of-the-therapist development. This position emphasizes teaching core clinical courses, such as Psychopathology, Research Methods, Advanced Theories in MFT, and coursework aligned with Medical Family Therapy and integrated care. The successful candidate will support students’ clinical, professional, and personal development as therapists, while contributing to curriculum design, scholarship, accreditation work, and shared governance.

Requirements

  • PhD or DMFT from a COAMFTE-accredited program
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), eligible for or holding licensure in New York State
  • Minimum of five (5) years post-graduate clinical experience as an MFT
  • Obtain AAMFT Approved Supervisor status within three (3) years of appointment
  • Prior graduate-level teaching experience with evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Demonstrated commitment to self-of-the-therapist development, reflective practice, and clinical supervision
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, strengths-based, and student-centered education
  • Experience providing services to individuals, couples, families, and diverse client populations

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and experience in Medical Family Therapy, integrated care, or healthcare-based family therapy models
  • Experience teaching core clinical courses (e.g., Psychopathology, Advanced MFT Theories, Research Methods)
  • Active or emerging clinical agenda and practice
  • Graduate-level MFT teaching experience
  • Administrative, leadership, or program development experience
  • Strong organizational and collaborative skills

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate MFT courses using departmentally approved, competency-based syllabi, including required clinical, theory, and professional development courses
  • Integrate self-of-the-therapist exploration into teaching and supervision, supporting students’ awareness of identity, values, emotional processes, power, culture, and relational positioning in clinical work
  • Utilize a range of teaching and supervision strategies, including live supervision, recorded session review, reflective practices, and instructional technologies (e.g. Exxat, Electronic Health Record (EHR) system learning management platforms)
  • Provide academic advising and capstone mentorship to MFT students
  • Collaborate with MFT faculty to ensure coherence and consistency across shared courses
  • Contribute to curriculum design, revision, and implementation in alignment with COAMFTE standards, with attention to Medical Family Therapy, integrated care, and systemic clinical training
  • Maintain an active clinical agenda and practice
  • Participate in program evaluation, accreditation activities, admissions, recruitment, and retention initiatives
  • Engage in shared governance through faculty meetings and service on programmatic and university committees
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards in accordance with the AAMFT Code of Ethics
