About The Position

The Clinical Instructor (Autism Specialist) position is a non-teaching position that provides support services to individuals with autism diagnosis. Prefer public school experience and experience working directly with families, educators and individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities. Autism Specialist will provide multi-tiered support to registered individuals with ASD , families, or caregivers of those individuals, and those who educate and support them within their communities. Support services rely on a team-based approach and provide intensive support and training to those supporting the individual with autism spectrum disorder. Teams typically include family members, the individual with ASD , educational and/or behavioral health staff, and others involved in the individual’s life. The Autism Specialist facilitates training, coaching, and the development of a Positive Behavior Support ( PBS ) plan through collaboration with team members. Individualized skill development programs are developed by the team and implemented across all settings (home, community, and school) with an emphasis on improving the individual’s and family’s quality of life. In addition to providing support to clients, the position also develops and provides various training on PBS and special topics related to autism for registered families, educators, and community partners of the WV ATC ; develops and conducts assessments of behavior and skills including functional assessments; uses experimental research designs to make data driven autism program decisions; designs assessments of current levels of functioning of individuals with autism. Must have knowledge of functional assessment and single-case research design and be able to design research to determine motivating variables for challenging behavior; prepares written reports of project results for presentations and publications in professional journals and newsletters; and develops and provides presentations on autism for state and national audiences. The position is located in the North-Western portion of the state, including the following counties: Jackson, Roane, Calhoun, Gilmer, Wirt, Ritchie, Wood, Pleasants, and Tyler. Because duties are carried out across a large regional area, this position will be primarily remote. Planned in-state travel will take place according to client and community partner need, and out-of-state travel will occur on occasion. Travel is required for this position. Travel does not typically require overnight stays. Mileage to and from training and meetings is reimbursed.
