About The Position

While upholding the Star Valley Health mission, vision, and values, this key position will manage day-to-day operations of the clinical informatics team and assist in the implementation and maintenance of information systems, including technical and functional support for the electronic health record (EHR) system, Epic. This position is responsible for the overall adoption, optimization, quality, training, implementation, and ongoing support related to the clinical systems and workflows utilized by providers, nurses, and others across the hospital and clinic setting. This role involves educating and collaborating with leadership, the EHR vendor, and internal stakeholders to identify, assess, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to EHR and clinical systems. Strong problem-solving, communication, and technical skills, along with the ability to manage complex demands from end-users and align with organizational strategic goals, are essential for success in this role. This role will assist in the development of and compliance with HIPAA standards to maintain the security, privacy, confidentiality, and integrity of health information. This position is “at will.”

  • Must be able to lift twenty (20) pounds unassisted on a regular basis, lifting fifty (50) pounds or more on occasion.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or a doctorate of pharmacy.
  • Minimum 3-5 years clinical experience, including both hospital and ambulatory clinic.
  • Minimum 3-5 years Epic EHR system experience, with an Epic implementation preferred.
  • Minimum 1-3 years supervisory or leadership experience with progressive management responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of health center operations, including information technology operations, HIPAA privacy laws, and HITECH regulations.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to lead by influence instead of authority.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of the clinical informatics program related to hospital and clinic patient care services.
  • Support IT leadership through the development of goals, objectives, and programs consistent with those of the organization's overall strategic plan and initiatives, contributing to the overall success and growth of Star Valley Health.
  • Manage the daily operations of the clinical informatics team by managing staff recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of qualified candidates.
  • Conduct accurate, consistent, and timely performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement core employee training and professional development programs to enhance team capabilities, support recruitment efforts, and improve staff retention.
  • Scheduling and staffing the clinical informatics team to ensure proper distribution and balance of workload and support coverage. This can include covering shifts as necessary to ensure the department is adequately staffed.
  • Responsible for completing and submitting the monthly quality indicators and attending QSOC meetings quarterly.
  • Assist department leaders with Epic reports and dashboards.
  • Maintain clinical competencies and knowledge in accordance with the scope and responsibility of the position and ensure the same for team members.
  • Provide oversight of the assessment, evaluation, planning, and implementation of information system support needs for patient care operations, according to clinical judgement, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • This includes creating a governance process for the prioritization and status of the system support needs and changes.
  • Participate in organizational committees acting as a professional resource for physicians, clinicians, and leadership while promoting process improvement and change management to maximize best practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with project stakeholders, EHR vendor analysts, vendors, and colleagues to identify and resolve issues.
  • Act as a liaison to facilitate effective communication.
  • Work closely with other department leaders as new products and services are considered with the clinical workflow, technical components, and financial impact.
  • Oversee and lead committee discussions for identifying software or applications that enhance clinical practice while ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive super user program, including training and ongoing support to foster end-user competence through targeted training material, workshops, and knowledge-sharing initiatives led by super users.
  • Oversee the execution of user acceptance testing (UAT) of new releases or updates, ensuring effective dissemination of changes into training materials.
  • Identify emerging information technologies and collaborate with organizational leadership in the scoping of new integrations with current or new applications within our technology ecosystem.
  • Assist with building, testing, and supporting all integrations.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agency standards (i.e., HIPAA).
  • Review, monitor, and update applicable policies and procedures.
  • Oversee projects and manage timelines and tasks needed for successful completion.
  • Serve as a primary contact for providers, delegating where appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned or as needs arise.
